The Sierra Club's Statement of Purpose:  To explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. 

 

The Sierra Club, Niagara Group has fought to preserve habitat for wildlife all across Western New York.  Current projects of the group include:

Protection of the Klydel Wetland in North Tonawanda

bullet

Opposition to the extension of Route 219, which would aggravate urban sprawl in Erie County

bullet

Protection of wetlands in Amherst including the Natureview Park

bullet

Protest of recent snowmobile trails cut through Allegheny State Park

bullet

Support for the removal of the Robert Moses Parkway

bullet

Education programs on global warming, national forest policy and other issues
