The chief purpose of Western New York Old-Growth Forest Survey (a project of the Niagara Frontier Botanical Society) is to locate, evaluate, and describe all occurrences of old-growth forest in Western New York state and to report all findings to the New York Natural Heritage Program for further evaluation and for listing as significant biological resources.
WNY Old-Growth Forest Survey has identified and described over 100 occurrences of old-growth woodlands in Western New York; privately published preliminary report of findings; and mounted photographic exhibit of WNY old-growth sites (1995-1998).
Work continues and discoveries are still being made.
