Hartland Grassland  (Town of Hartland)  This area is bounded on the west by Hartland Road (Route 104), on the east by Robson Road, and on the south by the Erie Canal.  It is a large area of fairly un-fragmented grassland habitat (hay, pasture, and successional old field communities) that was previously a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) focus area for grassland management, especially for the ring-necked pheasant.   It is a good area for observing hawks, owls, and grassland songbirds (e.g., northern shrike in winter months, bobolink, eastern meadowlark, and Savannah sparrow).
